Neighborhood Watch Newsletter: Summer 2024

The neighborhood watch team meets once a month. A few of the hot topics have been speeding, parking on White Pine Dr, transients & how to respond to safety in general.

We had officer Carrie Lee (Community Resource Officer) at one of our meetings to talk about the best way to go about activity in the neighborhood that seems a little “off”. She had some great advice. Someone walking down the street is not doing anything illegal. Someone on private property is trespassing. We’ve discussed the best way to know the difference between a passer & someone who doesn’t belong. The suggestion of the group is:

  1. If you don’t feel in danger but are cautious, send a message to the neighborhood via the Signal app with as much detail as you can. If you are safely able to, take a photo & send it in the chat.

  2. If the person may be in a crisis, call APD 828-252-1110 first & then add a message in Signal (it’s important that whoever encounters the incident must call. Please don’t call on someone’s behalf.)

  3. If the person may be in danger or you feel in danger, call 911 first & then add a message in Signal.

As for parking, please keep all parked vehicles off White Pine Dr. and White Pine CT. It is a safety hazard for other drivers, walkers/runners & may block access by emergency vehicles.

If you are not on the Signal app, I urge you to sign up. Scan the QR code at the bottom of this newsletter for an easy step by step how to to start getting notified of things happening in the neighborhood. If you don’t know how, there are several members of the Kenilworth Forest Neighborhood Watch team that are happy to help you. Please reach out.

We welcome all questions, comments, & concerns from everyone in the neighborhood. You’re more than welcome to join our meetings & discussions. Our main goal is to keep the neighborhood & everyone in it safe.
